Shedd Aquarium was home to Grandad – an Australian lungfish who arrived at Shedd in 1933. The aquarium is home to over 20,000 specimens of some 1,500 species of both freshwater and marine fish. The Shedd Aquarium is one of the oldest and most respected aquariums in North America.
The aquarium is designated a national landmark and boasts many architectural features including the Georgia marble clad exterior and rare Tiffany fixtures.
The aquarium opened in 1930 and was built with funds donated by John Graves Shed. Shedd Aquarium houses hundreds of aquatic wonders including beluga whales, sharks, jellies and white-sided dolphins. Shedd Aquarium, which features 100 different species of fish and invertebrates including spotted trunkfish, ribbon eel, powder blue tang, purple tang, scribbled angelfish, lagoon jelly, flower hat jelly, blue-spotted spinefoot, squarespot fairy basslet, lined seahorse, moorish idol, axima clam and pyramid butterflyfish.
The webcam is located at the Underwater Beauty Exhibit, at the
